JACOB FISH FOR JUDGE
EXPERIENCE

I feel my experiences throughout my life have prepared me to be the next Greene Superior Court Judge.  My work experiences, whether they be in the courtroom or jobs I had growing up, my family, and my involvement in the community have made me keenly aware of what it takes to be a successful judge who values the community they work in and respects its citizens.

I currently have a law office in Worthington, Indiana.  I work in the areas of criminal law, family law, children in need of services, property, small claims, and general law.  This has given me invaluable experiences in numerous areas.  Part of my practice entails being a Public Defender for Greene County and the Town Attorney for Worthington.  I believe in order to be a successful judge, you need to have experiences in many areas as a practicing attorney.  By remaining a practicing attorney, I have met with clients, managed a full caseload, and tried jury trials to completion. Last year alone I handled approximately 300 cases ranging in all types of law.  By handling this many cases, I am in court almost every day.  The combination of all of these diverse experiences has given me the necessary tools to be your next Judge.

I feel my family has been a strong support system that has helped me to see several aspects of what a judge should be.  As stated above, I do criminal defense, but growing up, I saw first hand the other side of the law: the police side.  My father worked for the Jasonville Police Department for around 29 years.  During that time, I befriended and witnessed what the police officers go through in their jobs and lives to keep us safe and do their job effectively.  I believe these encounters to be indispensable in my experience in that I am able to better understand what the police are going through and take that into consideration in my daily deliberations if I am to be elected your next Judge.

Finally, my community involvement is a big part of my life.  I feel a strong connection to the citizens of Greene County.  I have lived here all of my life and I have tried to give back throughout my life.  The first way I did this was through the Boy Scouts.  I am proud to say that I reached the rank of Eagle Scout.  During high school, I made a decision that would affect the rest of my life, and it was really my first adult decision.  Ten days after turning 18, I signed up for the U.S. Army Reserves.  I did my basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and AIT at Fort Jackson, S.C.  I was honorably discharged in 1999.  I feel the time I spent in the Army was some of the best life experiences I could have received.  I met people and went places I would not otherwise have been able to.  It taught me about hard work, dedication, selflessness, and teamwork.  I am very proud of my service to my country.  In college I was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.  I became President my senior year and coordinated several community service projects.  And now, while back in Greene County, I have become involved with the Greene County Foundation, Jasonville Masonic Lodge F & AM #530, Worthington Lions Club, Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Home Community Board, Greene County Foundation Scholarship Committee, and the District 10 Pro-Bono Committee.  These are the organizations that I am a member of, but my wife and I support many, many charities including the Adult Literacy Coalition, Habitat for Humanity, DAV, Heifer International, and the Shawnee Theater to name a few. There are too many to list, but we try to help as many as we can in whatever way big or small.
